Ready...Set...Vacay!

Vacay. As in, "vacation". That would be what we're attempting to have at the moment. I'll try to be optimistic about this whole attempt. My mother swears that a positive outlook will make things better. So here goes.

My hubby's best friend from college and avid traveler, Chip, asked us if we'd be interested in "doing Disney" in the spring. Of course we were thrilled with the idea of Disney...who isn't? But wait. We just had a baby. Like, not even 5 months ago. How is that going to work, exactly? Well...this is how it's working so far.

I started packing yesterday afternoon (holy cow the number of things you have to pack for a baby) and finally finished around 4:30 pm. I got Landon down for a nap about 5 and  then packed up the dog's stuff to go to the dogsitter. I took him all the way to Clearwater in 5 o'clock traffic and when I finally got back home at 6:30, Landon was awake and ready to eat....again. So I fed him and we packed him up in his carseat and headed to Orlando. Oh wait...nope, we had to drive to the Tampa airport and pick up Chip's luggage that didn't make it on the same flight as he did. Detour time: 25 min. That was okay, because we heard on the radio that the interstate was at a stand still except for 1 of the 5 lanes headed in the direction we were going! Ahhh!

Fortunately, by the time we actually got there the accident was gone and all lanes were moving. Praise God ! And Praise God that Landon finally put himself to sleep about 25 minutes into the trip and managed to stay that way the whole way! Yeah buddy! We arrived at our condo in Orlando around 9 ish and I fed Landon Josh and Chip had to go to the Orlando airport and pick up Chip's family who came in on a different flight.

So I stayed behind and put Landon to bed (after about an hour of crying!) Finally around 10:30, I called it quits and went to bed myself. Only...could I sleep? No! Why, you ask? Because I have been attacked by pollen! My allergies had been bugging me all day, so I bought some Claritin and thought it would have started working. I forgot about all those commercials that I had once seen talking about how long it took for the stuff to work! I was miserable...runny nose, stuffy head, sore & scratchy throat! Ugh! To top it off, it was FREEZING cold in the house--only making my nose run faster! So I finally get to sleep around what I think to be midnight or so (there wasn't a clock in our room) and a few hours later...who wakes up? Yep. Landon. Poor thing, I'd be crying too if I woke up in a strange place. So, I don't blame him. But still...ugh! So, I fed him--all the while sniffiling and snuffing. He goes back down easily and I return to sleep as well. Until...about an hour later when he wakes up AGAIN! Why? He couldn't be hungry...I just fed him an hour ago! But...after trying everything else I could think of to get him back to sleep...I ended up feeding him. Then I tried to just let him lay with me and snuggle, thinking he'd sleep better and I wouldn't get woken up. Wrong. He was so NOT USED to sleeping with us that he just couldn't do it! Oh, come on! So I sat up, spread out his swaddling blanket on top of the covers between my legs and no sooner than I got him wrapped up, he was out. Do you think I moved him to his crib? Nope. He slept right there between my legs until 7:15! Maybe I should start him out there tomorrow night! Many thanks to the hubs for taking him at 7:15 this morning and hanging out with him while I got a few more minutes of sleep!

And...it's raining outside. Yeah.

Oh you poor thing! I remember those sleepless nights! Yeah, "vacation" gets redefined once you have a child....they forget to tell you that in the baby books! I'm sure you guys will have a good time though! Hang in there and take lots of pics! :) Love ya!
