Armed and Ready...and for What?

Landon hasn't slept through the night consecutively since, well...ever (there may have been a few nights of 8 hr stretches randomly sprinkled in there at around month 3 or 4). It's been a total nigthmare. I kept thinking things were supposed to get better in the sleep department...but they got seemingly worse! So...

Upon the suggestion of my pediatrician, we were going to start sleep training last night. My doctor drew out a plan right on the exam table paper...then he tore it off and made me take it home! I was so thankful to have that piece of paper to show Josh and to reassure myself with once the time came to enforce the plan. I was scared at first--the plan didn't look fun at all! It looked like lots of minutes of crying and not many minutes of comforting--or sleeping! But, it was the plan. The doctor-approved plan. The plan that I was determined to follow once Landon woke up in the middle of the night. I psyched myself up for it and put on my game face when I went to bed. I took deep breaths to calm my body and mentally prepare for a long night ahead of crying and "being strong".

Landon woke up at midnight (right as we were going to bed) and Josh put his pacifier back in (I made him do it so Landon wouldn't smell me and want to eat). He fussed for a few seconds and then went to sleep. I just knew that in a few hours he would wake me again...and the battle would begin.

But do you know what time he woke up? 7 am. No night wakings. No crying. No hunger. No battle.

Go figure. I don't have a battle plan...he wakes up. I have a battle plan...he sleeps. Here's hoping for more of that...
